ALTIPLANO ULTIMATE AUTOMATIC
THE ULTIMATE IN THINNESS. AND IN ELEGANCE.
Rewriting the laws of what is possible, Piaget has once more provided proof of its absolute mastery of ultra-thin watching. At only 4.30 mm thick, the Altiplano Ultimate Automatic is one of the thinnest luxury watches in the world, and a new measure of absolute elegance.
AND PIAGET CREATED… THE ULTRA-THIN
The history of Piaget’s dedication to ultra-thin watchmaking was born with the Maison in 1874 in La Côte-aux-Fées. In 1957, Piaget presented the world the ground-breaking manual-winding 9P calibre, measuring just 2 mm thick. Thanks to this and an ultra-thin automatic movement launched just three years later, Piaget would usher in a new era of ultra-thin watches. The most elegant men and women of their day, in the fields of art, cinema and music, immediately took note. They would be the first to adopt the watches that only Piaget knew how to create.
AN EXPRESSION OF PRECISION AND ELEGANCE, NAMED ALTIPLANO
More than six decades later, Piaget’s taste for challenges and constant pursuit of excellence remain undiminished. How could it be otherwise when a new generation of men and women demand just as great an aesthetic pleasure? One name, Altiplano, expresses Piaget’s continued commitment to staying at the forefront of ultra-thin watchmaking. The extreme slenderness of its historical movements has been one of its greatest motivators to do even better today.
YESTERDAY’S LIMITS ARE NOT TODAY’S
Altiplano Ultimate Automatic has proven this commitment. Presented for the first time at SIHH 2018, Altiplano Ultimate Automatic is a milestone in extreme thinness. Breaking free from the distinction between movement and case, Altiplano is designed as an inseparable whole. The caseback also serves as the mainplate, leading to a reversed movement construction, and an inimitable aesthetic in which the entire ultra-precision movement is magnificently displayed through the face of this mechanical masterpiece.
To save precious tenths of a millimetre, the entire mechanism and hand-fitting is contained within the thickness of the balance wheel. Working within these extremely small confines, Piaget has opted for a suspended barrel held by a single bridge on the dial side. Driven by the same concern for optimising use of the available space, the oscillating weight in gold with black PVD coating is positioned on the movement periphery so as to be incorporated into its thickness. Moreover, the hours and minutes are integrated within the thickness of the calibre, rather than placed on top.
ULTIMATE… AND UNIQUE
At once exceptional and a crowning achievement of more than 60 years of ultra-thin watchmaking, the Altiplano Ultimate Automatic is destined to become an icon of superlative refinement. For a select few men and women who search for purity of form and the ultimate in elegance, there is no other watch like it. There is no other watch to compare.
